September 2, 2012 | Crash Kings at Great Scott
by Miles Howard, Luke Milardo, and Hilary Milnes
| August 25, 2012
Given their penchant for arena-ready tunes, it may seem strange that Crash Kings set out to create a big rock sound strictly sans guitar. Yet with distinctive hits like “Mountain Man” and “1985,” the LA-based trio has achieved it, using only overdriven bass, hard-hitting drums, and a tricked-out Clavinet keyboard customized with a whammy bar. Expect cuts off their 2009 self-titled album and sneak peeks of new material from their forthcoming follow-up when they hit Great Scott (1222 Commonwealth Avenue, Allston, 617.566.9014) for an 8:30 p.m. show.
