July 23, 2012 | The Free Love Dinner Party at Local 149
The fashions of the 1970s keep staying alive (see: today’s beautifully boho platforms and maxi dresses). And the decade’s sounds still resonate in everything from nu-disco to indie rock. But ’70s cuisine? Not so frequently seen. We can, however, get a taste at Monday’s Free Love Dinner Party, a throwback feast at Local 149 (149 P Street, South Boston, 617.269.0900). First comes a 7 p.m. cocktail hour, where you can get to know Harvey Wallbanger and indulge in a little Sex on the Beach. Then you’ll dig into a three-course meal featuring era-appropriate eats like fondue, steak Diane, and hemp brownies — the legal version of their magical hippie cousin — all served amid ’70s tunes and décor. Grab tickets ($55) here, and start assembling your retro threads now: a prize awaits the best-dressed diner.
